About the course
Kanban System Design (KSD) is a 2-day, Kanban University-accredited course that teaches the foundational principles of the Kanban Method.
You and your cohort experience flow directly through a full simulation, then learn the STATIK approach (Systems Thinking Approach to Introducing Kanban) to design a Kanban system for a real working context, including your own.
KSD is the first of two courses leading to the Kanban Management Professional (KMP) credential, alongside Kanban Systems Improvement (KSI).

• Use pull-based workflow and limit work-in-progress to increase throughput
• Experience flow directly through a hands-on simulation of a Kanban system

• Read flow metrics like Lead Time and Cumulative Flow Diagrams to drive real improvement
• Identify the sources of dissatisfaction in your current process before redesigning around them
What's covered
Two days. Simulation first, then real design work. You experience Kanban through simulation before applying STATIK to design your own system.
Day 1
• The Kanban Method: origins, principles, and core practices
• Experiencing flow directly through a full Kanban system simulation
• Identifying internal and external sources of dissatisfaction in your current process
Day 2
• The STATIK approach to designing a Kanban system, step by step
• Visual board design and ticket design for your own context
• Kanban metrics: Lead Time, Cumulative Flow Diagrams, and using them to drive improvement
What you need to bring
No prior Kanban training or certification required.
• No prerequisites; all experience levels welcome
• Helpful: some experience working on or with a delivery team
• Virtual sessions: set up Zoom and Mural (instructions provided)
